The Future of Mobile Computing
Mobile computing is a form of interaction between a human being and a computer where a computer is supposed to be moved during the normal usage. The aspects included in the mobile computing are mobile communication, which emphasizes on the issues of properties in communication, protocols and infrastructure networks. Mobile hardware deals with mobile devices and device components while mobile software is concerned mostly with the characteristics and needs of mobile applications. According to Asoke (11), mobile computing is a technology that permits transmission of information through a computer without requiring to be connected to any fixed link in physical terms.
How advancements for mobile computing will unfold in the near future
Today, the rate at which technological development is taking place is very high. For instance, advancements in artificial intelligence, integrated circuitry and increase in computer processor speeds show that the future of mobile computing is very exciting. According to Pence& Steven (177), there is a lot of emphasis concerning the compact, little mobile computers where there is the possibility to have all the practicality of a mobile computer in the size of a hand held organizer or even smaller. The application of artificial intelligence may permit mobile units to be the ultimate in personal secretaries that can receive the message through emails, get a clear understanding of the message and then transform personal schedules depending on the message received.
The possibility of the working lifestyle to change is also very high where a good number of people will be working from the comfort of their homes instead of commuting. In the current world, there have been advancements in computers in that computers continue to slim down and majority of consumers are in favor of size and portability rather than “the heftier do it all type machine” (The Mobile Internet 2011). Therefore, in the future, size will most certainly be a vital aspect when consumers search for their next personal computer or notebook.
According to Pence& Steven (176), the advancements for mobile computing will unfold in the future through the materials being used to develop the modern computers and laptops where they all lead towards thinner designs and in particular Apple’s case. For instance, Apple has the potential and the ability to develop a very thin product while still preserving the power of a plastic counterpart. This could be achieved through its aluminum uni-body structure of the new books, which are significantly powerful than what could be created out of plastics.
Another way the future of the mobile computing could unfold is through the solution of cloud storage where the consumers could use cloud storage instead of loading up of files on their actual gadget. The need for onboard storage in the cloud storage is currently unnecessary especially for keeping music, photos and other relevant documents. The Google’s chromebook is increasingly eliminating almost everything hence allowing every person to connect to the internet. This type of technology is not yet in use but depending with the trend that the technology advancement is taking, the future of mobile computing is bright. The Mobile Internet (2011), Provides an example of the future advancement in the mobile computing to include the web-top, which is the idea of Motorola for the future of mobile computing. Currently, people carry two devices, which include a laptop and a phone. This is because the current phones are not in position to operate full operating systems like windows, Linux or Mac.
How mobile computing has been enhanced over time by comparing and contrasting the latest advancements and inventions to previous creations in mobile computing.
The mobile computing has been enhanced currently because it is viewed as a solution to most organizations hence enabling employees to be easily connected to one another and the privilege to maximum perfection that a business environment allows. Mobile computing has been enhanced through the increasing development in technology, which seeks to improve on the current technologies. For instance, a good number of institutions such as insurance companies, banking, and communication among others have been perfect witness on the transformation that has occurred from keeping documents in the shelves into implementation of the more extensive and more fashionable information and computing applications.
Mobile computing has also been enhanced through the various outsourcing organizations that have been developed with great skilled and talented intellectuals dealing with different significant technologies needed in developing forward-looking information technology applications. Compared to the past years, there are a large number of consumers demanding for website design, development and software applications have been on the increase. For instance, due to high demand, advancement in the mobile computing with different mobile devices has been established.
Previously, the usage of desktops was high as they were seen as the most important in the mobile computing as a way of processing information. However, with the latest advancements, such technologies according to Joraanstad (2011) are being eliminated and replaced with portable devices such as laptops, personal digital assistants and handheld mobile phones. Therefore, with the current mobile computing technologies, reliability, productivity and accessibility has been achieved more than it was with the invention of the previous creations in mobile computing.
Timeline of mobile computing
Mobile computing is known to have begun in 2400 BC and it is still developing currently. According to Bonnington (2011), in 2000, there was the release of the first phone running Symbian OS. The following is the systematic timeline of mobile computing:
2001: Linux kernel version of 2.4.0 was released 2002: RIM released the first blackberry Smartphone and there was also the formation of the United Linux officially 2003: there was release of Linux kernel version 2.6.0 and also the Pentium M for notebooks was formally released by Intel 2004: the first e-book reader with an electronic paper display was released by Sony in Japan 2005: there was the establishment of the Apple Macintosh project at Apple computer by Jef Raskin 2006: development of play station 3 was released by Sony 2007: the first introduction of iPhone by Apple 2008: goggle introduces the first version of Android 2009: window 7 is released by Microsoft
Examples of the improvement in mobile computing and what is predicted to come in the future
There have been a good number of improvements made in mobile computing of late. It is also predicted that more advancements are yet to be developed concerning the mobile computing technology. For example, Motorola Atrix has been established as a communication device, which has more power, and it is predicted to replace the Apple, which is the leading Smartphone producer. Another improvement involves the webtop, which is a separate laptop dock and is predicted to be released soon. Asoke (27) states that, “it is a thin like netbook complete with an 11-inch screen, separate battery, full keyboard and a trackpad”.
